Talk title: Inflammation and Metabolism

Abstract

Inflammation is a protective response against infection, injury and any other threat to homeostasis. Inflammation operates at the cost to other physiological processes. Acute systemic inflammation rearranges fuel allocation to support defenses and chronic inflammation induces metabolic adaptations to the prolonged deviation from metabolic homeostasis. In addition, inflammatory response induces metabolic alterations that promote tissue protection from inflammatory damage. The focus of this talk will be on the diverse mechanisms that are orchestrated by inflammatory mediators that promote either protection of disease susceptibility.
